Downtown Warsaw | The Old-Town | Along the Royal Route | Wilanow

Across the Palace of Culture and Science you see the so-called East Wall (Wschodnia Sciana). Built during the 1960's as modern shopping center for Warsaw, it still serves the needs of Warsaw's shoppers. Although today its role has diminished due to increasing numbers of modern shopping centers across Warsaw, it remains one of the biggest shopping centers in the city. In the background you the see the trendy Forum Hotel (The yellow building). The significance of the buildings in this area was their symbolism of the rebuilt Warsaw. The buildings were supposed to symbolize the modernity and futurism of socialist architects. Like many other buildings of the socialist era, these buildings are akwardly placed among older Warsaw landmarks.

Onto the next landmark
